Title: Drama CD discussions
Post by: IchigoToSatou on May 21, 2015, 10:25:19 AM
So I didn't see a drama CD topic and was wondering what everyone thinks about them. So here's some basic questions to start us off:

Do you know/like drama CDs?
Do you own or download any drama CDs?
What genre or theme do you like?
Are you looking forward to any being released?
What series do you suggest?
What do you like best about drama CDs?

Here's my answers:

Do you know/like drama CDs?
Yup. I think they're fun!

Do you own or download any drama CDs?
*cough* I DL a few, but only because I don't know a good place to buy them that imports to my country. But I do own one! I have an UtaPri Quartet Night drama CD.

What genre or theme do you like?
I like the same themes as I do for anime. I find the sleep CDs to be funny and the counting sheep tracks sometimes actually help me sleep! (Though, not so much the Hetalia ones! XD)

Are you looking forward to any being released?
No idea about any new releases right now to be honest, but I'm looking into the Happy+Sugar=Darlin series at the moment.

What series do you suggest?
"I ♥ Pet" is pretty funny, and "Starry☆Sky" is one you'll probs know. Also Mamoru Miyano had done mini dramas on some of his cds. I believe there was one with Park Romi too.

What do you like best about drama CDs?
The comedy, the voice acting, the fact you can literally imagine it as an anime or drama...

I own drama CDs, but I can hardly understand stuff without summaries or translations. My dream is to be able to understand what I am listening to so that I can close my eyes and imagine the raunchy action. It sort of detracts from the appeal that I cannot multitask with drama tracks, unless I am just listening for the sake of listening and completely guessing what I am listening to if I did not already read a description.

I like scenarios that make good use of the left and right speakers for the audio effect, but it does sort of feel buzzy in the ear since I usually have earbuds. Although now I have headsets... that recently broke so that I cannot hear out of one speaker when I do not mess with the wiring.

Well, even though I just really want to know what they say in the more romantic scenes for effect, I prefer more action-oriented stuff. Comedy... eh~~~ It is funny when it is funny, but it is lost on me when I can only hear it without supplement.

I know you commented on this before.

[member=7333]Aiwethryne[/member]: Ooooh~ which CDs? 8D

I can pick up on some of the words/phrases/sentences (my understanding varies depending on the scenario) but I agree that it's better when you can understand it completely. ^^" And YES! It's so cool when you can hear a character literally run past! XD

Ah~ the voice apps. Most of them include translations now, except (sadly) the mini-drama tracks. To be honest, I like drama CDs more than voice apps because you don't have to keep clicking to hear stuff. ><

I love the idea of drama cds and do listen to clips.  If they came with translations, I would gladly buy them.  They now have Nameless drama cd DLC on Steam.  Looking to get those.  I do love when they make full use of the dummy head mic.  It's so cool and never gets old to me.

I have the sleepy sheep one that's on Android.  Is there a drama cd version of that?  Would love to not have to click the screen.

They do! I'm not sure where to buy it on an English language website or if they export their CDs to other countries (from the official site). But I know you can download it online.

I have the Takumi one (because Kishio Daisuke ♥) it's really cute *sways*

I've listened to some pr0n ones before with rough fan translations that I've found online. They were fun but just too much effort to try to read between the lines of the translations and google words etc.  :ummm:

Props to anyone who's trying to learn Japanese through these drama CDs though. Seems like a good method.
