Hi, we're planning to develop some free otome games on iOS and Android. Please help us to bring out the best quality otome by sharing your thoughts about what do you look for in an otome game.
We appreciate your time and promise that this survey is quick, easy, and one of a kind! Thank you for your time!

1. Heroine's eyes. Most of the time they are nowhere to be found. I would appreciate a pair of beautiful, bright, intelligent eyes.
2. Hair. I like when I can sort of see individual strands of hair, making them look clean and silky.
3. Reasonably proportioned bodies and poses. JOJO is well appreciated though.
4. Plot. I want an actually engaging story. No plot holes please. I also like to be able to follow the story instead of being confused by which point such and such occurs in the story.
5. Expressions. It's so boring when the characters always has the same couple of expressions. I would appreciate a wider set of expressions individual for each character. The same applies to body structure. I don't want all the character's bodies to look the same. Some characters should have wider shoulders or are more muscular, maybe some have chest hair. Different skin tones would be nice too. More variety.
6. Voices. Is this game voiced? Partially? Fully? Well known VA? In English or Japanese?
7. Extras. Is there a gallery? OSTs? Replay scenarios? Mini-games?
8. Loading times, screen resolution, app size.
9. Grammar, spelling, punctuation. Word choice. Dialect or accents?
10. Audience. Is this game R18? Are there uncensored *beep* and—but I'm guessing no.
11. On a scale from not at all to over 9000, how annoying are each of the characters including the heroine?
12. IAP. The most annoying thing of all. On occasion, I would be willing to spend maybe $4 tops on IAP.
13. OP MV. Does it have an opening video? Is there music, vocals? How good is the animation?
14. Consistency. Quality.
15. Synopsis. It takes more than pretty art to reel me in. How persuasive and truthful is the synopsis/summary?

Just some general/basic things.

The most important thing for me is whether my favorite seiyuu is involved or not.

Since this is out of the blue, what group do you actually belong to? Or are you such a new group, this happens to be your first game endeavor at all?

Thank you for your input! Currently we don't have a solid plot yet, it's still in the development stage by our writers. As for the art it's going to be illustrated by this artist , with multiple poses and expressions per character. Though the game won't be voiced (or we'll consider it in the near future), the soundtracks are original.
Also, the game is most likely going to be PG 13 rating. We're still considering about IAP and if yes, its fees.

I'm a member of Kuls Studio team. Although we're just a small and inexperience in the mobile game field, we try what we can to deliver the best experience and at the same time improve ourself to our best potential. We've published a few casual games of various genre (Robo's Escape, Chainsaw Killer, AvaMe) but we lack experience in dating/visual novel games, thus we hope the survey can give us a better insight for the upcoming otome.

That is somewhat assuring to know. You have my support for now. But I am going to move this thread into the "Otoge Project Help" section after a day. That section of the forum is sort of meant for this type of thing.

Done with the survey!

Reasons why I play or buy otoge : art and plot. The 1st and 2nd questions are not easy to answer as I don't care about the background or setting of the game as long as it's an interesting game. So, surprise me with your plot. Just an example from good otome from a developer Cheritz. Good art good story.

And please, not a raising stats game..I can die of boringness

When i look at a potential otoge to play i immediately look at the guys(as im sure most do) I look at the art style and i also look to see if they are the generic cookie cutter expressions and attitudes. Im honestly tired of choosing from the same 4-5 types of guys in each game that have the exact same personality from this other game but with slightly different appearances. I know that it can be a bit difficult to "create" new types of personalities but its not that i dont like them, im simply tired of the overuse of the same expressions, dialogue and story line with a particular personality.
I need more spice in these games with unexpected outcomes or having the mc truly fight for her man and not be an emotionless doll.
I need a strong admirable mc who has opinions and respects herself. I understand that majority of the otoge mc's personalities are a cultural thing and or for the player to see herself as the mc.

This came out more like a rant but hope it helps xD

Thank you so very much, and thank you as well for the example! A good plot is hard to come up with, we really have to work as hard as possible, hopefully we could have your support as well when the game is released.

Oh my, your advice really helps us out here, thank you! I too I look at the guys/girls almost instantly as I found a new otome/harem visual novel. Well its true that the personality types are pretty limited and some of them are overused but just as you said, it's hard to come up with a totally new personality. :faint: We'll do however we can, and will do our best to create new experience.
Similar to you, I do prefer a fleshed out MC rather than an empty, self-insert reader, but the majority of smartphone otomes are using such setting (NTT Solmare, Voltage, Koyonplete), so I hesitated. Its good to know that I wasn't alone  :santahat:

I put this in the survey but I'll just re-post for feedback.

My favourite otome game is My Forbidden Love because the plot is simply brilliant (for Mike's story). Out of all the otome games I play, I anticipate this one the most.
*Also, if it's a free otome game, I'd like some kind of feature so that I can re-read the story.*
**AND... quite a few people like achievements -wink wink-**

There are two types of otome games I identify with:
1. Making the character before the plot (NTT Solmare and Voltage)
2. Making the plot before the character (My Forbidden Love and Miranda's Choice by NMG2 Limited)
Of course, I prefer the latter.

Indeed, it is quite hard to make unique characters but it's not entirely impossible. Instead, (bullet 2)you could try and make a plot and from there make unique CHARACTERS instead of unique PERSONALITIES. That is my best piece of advice for you.
