How do you react whenever you see characters with the same name, or even your real name, across different series? It is more common to see characters with the same first name, like the worn and recognized "Sakura," but surname matches can be just as awkward if you know that some characters are related, however distantly. *coughromancingthegrandsons* It does not help that some names exist in multiple countries, even while they mean entirely different things.
In historical series, of course some characters are based on the same real or fictional people, thus having the same names. Some characters even switch genders because the creators thought it was a good, marketable idea. The mannerisms and appearances may be different, but first impressions and strong associations with a character or scenario may taint a name forever.
Nothing stops how uncanny it can be to see a Kinshiro who looks like a Natsume from a game with a Kinshiro, and that Natsume further reminds me of both cats and fruit. Knowing that a man in the Legend of Korra has the same name as my moniker Aiwei made me chuckle during every scene, but I cringe when I hear my real name while watching a show or reading a book.
