Hakuoki for iOS & Android

Event

Be one of the first to see the Idea Factory's Hakuoki game for iOS and Android at Anime Festival Asia 2014. This event will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre from December 5-7th. Hakuoki will have a booth at this event so be sure to drop by if you are nearby!

Here is an excerpt from their press release that summarizes the game:

A young woman comes to Kyoto in search of her missing father, and soon encounters danger and the Shinsengumi in quick succession. When it becomes clear the Shinsengumi are also searching for her father, she is put under their protection. But odd things are afoot in Kyoto—possibly even supernatural happenings. Can she navigate this maze of mortal danger and political intrigue? Amidst so much mystery and death, can she find romance?

Hakuoki’s Key Features:

-Experience a historical fantasy adventure while pursuing a relationship with one of several characters in the game.
-Enjoy original Japanese voices by renowned Japanese voice actors, a visual novel filled with beautiful illustrations and changing character portraits on the go. Examine character biographies, check your story progress, and replay scenes you have already watched, anywhere you want.
-Decide the story’s ending. The choices you make during the game will determine the female protagonist’s fate and those of the Shinsengumi members.

Also, Ms. Lim from Vivid Creations has agreed to let us do an informal Q&A for the game. I would like to compile a list of questions our community may have for the game and she will forward our questions to game/marketing company. So post below on any questions you may have for them or send me the question via PM if you would like to stay anonymous and I will post their answers when I receive them!

Thanks for getting us the Q&A!  :cool2: It seems they've come out with so many versions though...How will the phone game differ from all the others that have been released? (I've only played the 3DS game, but I read it's pretty similar to the others...)

I don't have a question about the iOS version, but I have a question about SSL if that's okay. Will SSL ever be released internationally like for example the PS3 version of Hakuoki?

I was almost going to get one of the games in this series several months ago until I read reviews and that it's more of a tragic romance. :S
I assume they're all like that so I've been kind of staying away these games. Nothing against them, I also the kind of person who avoids sad movies or anything in the 'drama' genre. I think I'm the only person I know who HATED "The Notebook." Also never saw Titanic. I don't need this sadness! Would love to see less heartbreaking otoge become mainstream for consoles in English as Hakuoki has.

[member=19266]Vixey[/member] I only really finished one route but it didn't end sadly even though it seemed pretty doomed very early in the story but it didn't. The story itself tends to make you think it will end really sad though.

I love this game! I bought the most recent port for PS3, but it would be fun to play on my phone too.  Thanks for getting a Q&A! My question is will the CGs that we got in the PS3 version be the same as the ones we get on the phone, or are there different CGs available?

Vixey, it's not Titanic. Ends are usually kind of bittersweet, but they are not bad. Moreover they have spin-off in our time (school romance) and latest games in the series are about other side of conflict (and new heroine at the end!), so they should have happier ends as we know the history.

About questions...
- Main question will be what the difference from other versions - 3ds, ps3?
- Do they have plans to translate other games in the series like SSL and Urakata?
- Will this game be a pure VN as most in series or will we see smth similiar to Yuugiroku (mini-games) or even Bakumatsu Musouroku (action)?
- Way of distribution? Will it be f2p dress-up 5-passes-a-day game or paid app?
- If it'll be paid app will they sell routes separatedly or it'll be full game to buy at once?
- If it'll be f2p game do they have plans to support game with events and totally new stories created specially for this release?
- If they plan to add new CGs in this release who will be the artist of them?

Wow! Revy covered a lot of the questions I had too :> awesome~ That leaves me with...

For this game, will CGs be like Hiiro no Kakera 4 (Scarlet Fate)--with a vertical orientation? It'd be great if we had the option to see it in full view (I assume horizontally). They are so gorgeous to be reduced to such a small portion of the screen!

Also, there are already games on PSP, PS3, DS, and iOS/Android,  will there be English releases for the PSVita?

Last, but not least, would they consider making this game with voice acting w/subs? (option to toggle it on/off of course)

Are there any chances of the mobile version to have routes/endings for other characters, like Keisuke Sannan, Kondo Isami, Amagiri Kyuujyuu and Kyo Shiranui?
 
Also, will the game be region-locked to Japan and/or USA only, or is it going to be available worldwide?
I mean, I don't care if the game is English only, but I'm not in the US, so there's a few mobile games I am unable to enjoy due to region locking - such matter brings much concern to me~

Congrats on getting the Q&A! It's so cool!

What is the what is the size of the game in terms of memory? What operating system do they recommend? (Can older phones handle the games, or do they need to be the latest generation?)

Thanks for sharing your questions guys! I am compiling them right now to be sent out to Ms. Lim. There were some questions that may be too off topic to ask since this is specifically for the smartphone version of the game, so I will most likely not add them to the list but thank you for sharing anyway!

I will post their response as soon as I receive a reply. =D

I hope they will translate Hakuouki SSL in english!!

and add a route for Shinpachi :)
