Game Play:This is a visual novel type game. It is structured like a choose your own ending kind of book where there is a set story line. Along the way choices are presented to the player which ultimately decides which ending the player receives. The game begins with a prologue then the player is led to a 'choose a route' menu in which the player picks a guy and continues with the story. Depending on the choices picked in the character route, the ending can be a "Bad Ending," "Normal Ending" or a "Happy Ending."
The game has a limit to how many "free" Koyons (in game currency to play episodes -- 10 Koyons = 1 episode) you can have each day and it depends solely on how many Koyons you used the day before. For example if you used 10 Koyons (1 episode) the previous day then the next day it will only load 10 Koyons back into your account. You can only get a max of 20 Koyons back each day.
There is no account saving function so in event that the user switches phones or deletes the app the user will lose everything.Personal Review:Review-Pros: FREE, In-app purchases are cheap, Additional CGs in mini game
Cons: Story, Characters, Currency system
The option to save CGs in game is still missing and there is a spin-off coming for Jun in November, but for the most part the basic game is there with it's three main characters to choose from. When I first opened this app I couldn't help but notice that several things have changed. There was the addition of music, the artwork style changed, grammar/spelling mistakes were minimal and the UI changed as well. From a first glimpse I was incredibly impressed with how fast things improved especially for a new company and it being a free game, that is, until I actually got further into the game...
Let me just say that despite the outer look of improvements the game in my opinion can't even measure up to Koyonplete's first game. Let's start with the music, for the most part much of it is classical (very little, if any of the music was original) which is not a big deal, I have an admiration for classical but a lot of times in Togo's route it didn't seem to fit well with the mood of the game and I would much rather play the game with no music than with music that simply didn't fit. In terms of artwork, personally I preferred the style from PureLove for the characters. Also, many of the CG poses seemed almost awkward at times. To be fair though, the backgrounds in this game are absolutely stunning so it wasn't a complete loss. The UI itself seemed like a vast improvement, especially when it came to the lagging. However the problem comes when the user checks in to re-fill the Koyons each day and the amount replenished is the amount used the previous day. This seems to be the most irritating thing about the game. Simply put, this system just does not work because there is too much potential for things to go terribly wrong. For example, there was a bug where the Koyons would not replenish every now and then. It was suppose to be fixed and to some degree it has been, but it is still not re-filling correctly. This occurs sporadically. Sometimes it will not fill at all unless you have a spare 10 Koyon to play and that's when it realizes it needs to replenish from the day before. Frustrating? Definitely.
Enough with the bells and whistles of the game, how does the storyline and characters stack up? I can't make an accurate enough of a judgement until I play all three characters. The only one I've finished so far is Togo's route and I'm working on Takumi's now. From the prologue Takumi was the only character that stood out to me but I wanted to see how the other characters fared so I went with Togo first. I'm sad to say that Togo's story was incredibly boring. The character had no depth or personality in the story and the main reason I probably felt this way was because the main character seemed to have spent more time talking to herself and other characters than she did interacting with Togo. There was absolutely no connection with Togo from my end and it was very disappointing. After playing through Togo's route, I couldn't help but wonder if they switched writers... Takumi on the other hand is a little bit better so far, the user gets to interact with him more but the main character still pretty much talks to herself. There's a bit more of a connection with Takumi though and he is more interesting as a character than Togo but the storyline is still only mildly appealing.
With all that said, it is still a free game so as the saying goes "You get what you paid for." I'm giving it three hearts for a good try, it's evident that Koyonplete put in a lot of effort to try and make this game a good one and I can admire that at least.
