[/b]

Description:
Japan's Edo Period was drawing to a close.

The shogunate, who'd held power in the country for more than 200 years, found itself challenged by the imperial court, and by several domains who had chaffed under shogunal rule.

In this midst of this political unrest, an organization rose to prominence: The Shinsengumi. Originally formed to protect the streets of Kyoto from masterless samurai, they came to represent the last, tragic bastion of the honor-bound samurai culture that had defined much of Japan's history.

A young woman by the name of Chizuru comes to Kyoto in search of her missing father, and soon encounters danger and the Shinsengumi in quick succession. When it becomes clear the Shinsengumi are also searching for her father, Chizuru is put under their protection.

But odd things are afoot in Kyoto—possibly even supernatural things. Can Chizuru navigate this maze of mortal danger and political intrigue? Amidst so much misery and death, can she find romance?

Price:

Standard Edition

$35.90 Play-Asia

The Guys:

Toshizo Hijikata (?? ??)
Commander of the Shinsengumi.
The men tend to call him the "The Demon," and not always behind his back.
To maintain order and unity among his ragtag group of warriors, he is very strict and deals out harsh punishments in accordance with The Code.
Very few know his true nature or guess at his internal strife.

Souji Okita (?? ??)
Captain of the Shinsengumi's 1st Division.
Okita is considering to be something of a genius with the sword.
He like to make jokes—frequently at the expense of his comrades—and often wears a wry smile, but in battle he holds nothing back and his devotion to the Shinsengumi and Kondou is unparalleled.

Sanosuke Harada (?? ???)
Captain of the Shinsengumi's 10th Division.
Harada has something of a quick temper, and he's a little rough around the edges, but underneath it all he's a compassionate man with a strong sense of duty.
His weapon of choice is the spear, not the sword, and he has no equal among Kyoto's spearmen.

Heisuke Todou (?? ??)
Captain of the Shinsengumi's 8th Division.
A cheerful man from Edo, Toudou is the youngest captain in the Shinsengumi.
He's quick with a grin and tends to jump straight into things before thinking them through, even if what he's jumping into is a life–or–death battle.

Hajime Saito (?? ?)
Captain of the Shinsengumi's 3rd Division.
Saito is know for being reserved, solitary, and loyal.
Unlike most other swordsman, he fights with his left hand. He is a master of the art of iai, and his swordsmanship is top–tier even among the Shinsengumi.

Chikage Kazama (?? ??)
A mysterious warrior hired by the Satsuma Domain.
He seems to have a special interest in Chizuru Yukimura..

Game Play:

This is a visual novel type game.  It is structured like a choose your own ending kind of book where there is a set story line. Along the way choices are presented to the player which ultimately decides which ending the player receives.  There are multiple possible endings.

yea, there's not really a reason to get a psp~ there's really limited games to begin with and most aren't really even targeted for girls. at least not in western countries. think i use my psp once a year if that? and i love gaming lol~

@Kathryne : have you play Yo-Jin-Bo? That game is quite nice, both story and art. I've Hakuoki on my com, but it doesn't run even with pcsp. If you know a nice, working on psp emulator, let me know about it.
@Kokoro : well..you surely need a psp if you had a boring 18-22 hours flight like me  I think there're quite a lot psp games for girl like Harvest Moon hehe or No Kuni No Alice series, Starry Sky series...

This game isn't for everyone, since it's romance is rather on the low side, in my opinion. I played through Hijikata's route, since I really like his character image, but I just couldn't get into the events of the story and Hijikata ended up being way too wrapped up in the events of the story to give ???(forgot her name... Chihiro? lol somehow I feel that's not right. ) the time of day. I really can't see why any girl would enjoy this unless they were some kind of Edo period buff. I didn't find miss ????too appealing either, and was it just me, or were you guys also dissapointed that you couldn't get a route with Mr. Megane man? He's my favorite character. Of course, it's because he's crazy.  Not complaining about the purchase though, I got a good history lesson out of it and even all my students at the Eikaiwa I work at are suprised that I know more about the Shinsengumi than they do. :cool2: Not that any of them actually care about the shinsengumi though...

If you're only planning on purchasing a PSP for the sole purpose of playing ?? games in English, then I would agree. But hey, I've bought plenty of ?? games from overseas through playasia.com and a year ago I came to Japan, so I've stocked up on visual novels since then that work on the PSP platfrom. So, I beg to differ. The PSP is one of the most awesome platforms to own. It's especially useful during train rides and work breaks. c : It actually has more ???games than any other platfrom out there, besides the PC maybe...

Oh man, I love this game so much.
Hijikata's route was... like riding a rollercoaster. Man, SO crazy. I'm laughing and then I'm crying and crying and ugh so many emotions and crying again and wtf I don't need to laugh at all who cares about fun when there are so many emotions and aaaah. ;_;
So great. So. Utterly. Fantastic.

Though I probably should have saved Hijikata for last.. I started the uh Tails route after him (you know, the guy with the pony tail) and I thought it was kinda boring.
Haven't played Okita but read a LP and that was great. Have to replay it myself.
Oh and I did Kazama's route, too and liked it a lot. :D Even though it wasn't really a route, but he is so good looking. ;_;

For me, I don't have any interest on Hijikata (i finished his route the last and not really paying attention).
Other's are great, Okita is the best. I sob and frustrated whenever caught his bad ending (because of my dirty thought to choose 'that' option). It's an easy game and you don't really need a walkthrough as long as you pay attention to its dialog and save a lot #mwihihi

Oh, I forgot to mention Harada. I think his route is awesome and sad too. If I didn't read someone blog that recommended his route, i don't think i will finish his. And Kazama too, He's evil yet i love him. I want him mooore.

I read the other series of Hakuoki being translated too, i've played japanese vers and bakumatsu (was it its name?) not really interesting

lol yea if you can read japanese there's plenty to choose from and the psp platform is awesome but the game selection in english in the states are pretty sad- doesn't really matter which genre but yea i meant for the sole purpose of playing ?? and even games aimed for girls don't exactly exist in english at least.  most of the girl games i have on psp are in japanese and the rpgs and the fighting ones are in english but most people on here don't exactly understand japanese.
